Is there anything so agonizing as waiting? Fingers tapping, pulse rushing, stomach clenched, knees knocking, feet kicking in anticipation. Nervous energy, unable to be expelled, pent up. Bodily frustration builds up to a breaking point, expended in angry words. Body language becomes irate with every ticking second of the clock. Time is everyone’s worst enemy. When you’re waiting, though, is it the clock you’re afraid of, or the event on the other side of those seconds? The news, the exam, the decision. Sometimes waiting frustrates us because we watch those last few seconds of ordinary life slip through our fingers like water droplets- uncatchable, irrevocable, indelible. Waiting is not the enemy, nor is time, but change.
